چکیده

Flash flooding affects a growing number of people and causes billions dollars in losses each year with the impact often falling disproportionally on underdeveloped regions. To inform post-flood mitigation efforts, it is crucial to determine flash extents, especially for extreme events. Unfortunately, flood hazard mapping has been limited by lack observations both high spatial temporal resolution. The CubeSat constellation operated Planet Labs can fill this key gap Earth providing 3 m near-daily multispectral imagery at global scale. In study, we demonstrate imaging capabilities CubeSats hazards arid We selected severe storm 13–14 August 2021 that swept through town Gila Bend, Arizona, causing damages, two deaths, Declaration State Emergency. found extent be mapped from comparisons near-infrared surface reflectance prior after event (?NIR). unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution allowed detection ponded (?NIR ? ?0.05) flood-affected ? +0.02) areas compared remarkably well 100-year obtained an independent hydraulic modeling study. Our findings provides valuable details support activities such as damage assessments emergency relief.

Flood Flow Frequency Model Selection Using L-moment Method in Arid and Semi Arid Regions of Iran

Statistical frequency analysis is the most common procedure for the analysis of flood data at a gauged location thatin first step it is needed to select a model to represent the population. Among them, the central moment has been themost common and widely used, and with the using of computers, the application of the maximum likelihood hasincreased. This research was carried out in order to reco...

Long Lead Flood Simulation Using Downscaled GCM Data in Arid and Semi-arid Regions: A Case Study

Flood is one of the most calamitous natural disasters that causes extensive property and life damages across theworld. It however, could be a blessing due to its special natural water resources recharging value. By simulating themagnitude of probable floods considering the anthropogenic and natural effects and implementing contingency plans, their damages could be reduced. In this paper, the Gen...

Floodplain mapping using HEC-RAS and GIS in semi-arid regions of Iran

Abstract A significant deficiency of most computer models used for stream floodplain analysis is that the locations of structures impacted by floodwaters, such as bridges, roads, and buildings, cannot be effectively compared to the floodplain location. This research presents a straightforward approach for processing output of the HEC-RAS hydraulic model, to enable two- and three dimensional f...

Environmental sensitivity of flash flood hazard using geospatial techniques

Flash flood has been increasing in the Khartoum area, Sudan due to geographical conditions and climatic change as heavy rainfall and high temperature, therefore the present work tried to estimate the sensitivity of flash flood. The present work proposes an advanced technique of flood sensitivity mapping using the method of analytical hierarchy process. Ten factors as elevation, slope, distance ...

Flash Flood Hazard Susceptibility Mapping Using Frequency Ratio and Statistical Index Methods in Coalmine Subsidence Areas

This study focused on producing flash flood hazard susceptibility maps (FFHSM) using frequency ratio (FR) and statistical index (SI) models in the Xiqu Gully (XQG) of Beijing, China. First, a total of 85 flash flood hazard locations (n = 85) were surveyed in the field and plotted using geographic information system (GIS) software. Based on the flash flood hazard locations, a flood hazard invent...
